Lesson 3: Introduction to Temple Doctrine – Part 1: The Three Tenets

Original journal entry from June 3, 2025 – Response to Lesson 3: Introduction to Temple Doctrine (Part 1: The Three Tenets). This was my practical breakdown of the Three Tenets — Focus, Knowledge, and Wisdom — and how they form a repeating cycle of growth and refinement in daily life.

Focus:
My understanding of focus and pruning the irrelevant is that I should not commit myself to accomplish many things but rather choose only one or two and put all of my time, attention and effort into that. For example, if I want to accomplish 20 different things, I will only have 5% to give to each one, but if I focus on just the one, I can give it my all with 100%.

Knowledge:
I suppose this goes hand in hand with Focus. Once I have established what I will focus on, I can learn everything I can about that one thing. Focusing on the task at hand gives me a better understanding of what is required to accomplish it. There might be things that have to be done in a certain order. I can gain knowledge from focusing on the whole thing, seeing ahead what might become an obstacle later on.

Wisdom:
Wisdom then results from what was learned from focus and applying the knowledge that was gained. The cycle gets repeated. From wisdom comes new insight, revealing and refining what is irrelevant and what needs to be focused on more. New insights are gained and this new knowledge leads to better application. Experience in the repeating the cycle leads to better judgement and patience with the process.

Looking back now: This entry captures how early in the program I was already seeing the Three Tenets not just as abstract principles but as a practical, repeating cycle — one that still guides how I prioritize and grow today.
