Lesson 3: Introduction to Temple Doctrine – Part 2: The Code

Original journal entry from June 5, 2025 (edited June 19, 2025) – Response to Lesson 3: Introduction to Temple Doctrine (Part 2: The Code). This was my line-by-line reflection on the Jedi Code, exploring how each pair (Emotion yet Peace, etc.) guides decision-making, perspective, and understanding of life and death.

Emotion, yet Peace:
Every decision is made from a position of peace. Yes, there may be emotion but they are not what dominates behavior. Acting on emotion will lead to rash decision making and bad moves. First, restore peace, then act.

Ignorance, yet Knowledge:
Make informed decisions. Do not act on only small amounts of information. Do not relay incomplete information. First, seek knowledge and understand the whole picture before acting on the information. Know before you go.

Passion, yet Serenity:
Passion is not bad in itself. It is the fuel to motivate and move forward. Yet passion can make blurry what is important and what is not. It can in the moment fuel rash decisions and behaviors one might regret later. Therefore let serenity take over, to accept what cannot be changed, and to focus on what can.

Chaos, yet Harmony:
Accept that all things are connected. Learn to see harmony in all things. Start with focusing on the task at hand. Ignore the chaos around until it can be assimilated in harmony little by little. Chaos and harmony are perspectives that can change.

Death, yet the Force:
Death is not the end; it is a new beginning. Before birth, there was the Force. Birth was a new beginning; life learning to live in the Force and in this frail body. In death, it is returning to the Force with the knowledge and wisdom that was learned in life. I am a spirit who has a soul and lives in a body. Before birth I was only a spirit. At birth I was given a soul and a body to live in. When the body is gone in death, I live on as spirit having a soul. The soul contains the non-material things that I have learned/gathered while living in the body.

Looking back now: This entry shows how quickly the Jedi Code became a lens for me — not just abstract philosophy, but a practical guide for emotional regulation, decision-making, and even understanding life, death, and the soul. It’s one of the pieces that still resonates strongly in my daily practice.
